Jackie and Lee

Run, don't walk, over to my pal In Curlers' blog to see this amazing feature:

It's a Wig, Wig, World!

And we all live in it.
I especially like the man in the lower left corner. Did you know he's modeled on Thombeau?

Barbershop Candles

The Blind Barber, working closely with JOYA, has created candles inspired by the smells of the barbershop and presented in “Barbicide” jars…

Available in Honey, Smoke, Leather and Lavender.

Honey – Derived from the sweet smell of whiskey you get as the glass reaches your mouth. (Each service at the Blind Barber comes with a complimentary cocktail.)

Smoke – A slight hint of smoke is reminiscent of the lingering smell of smoke from jackets hung on the coat rack.

Leather – The element of leather is a reminder of the way barbers used to sharpen their razor right before they shaved a man’s beard.

Lavender – A signature finishing touch to all of the Blind Barber shaves. The essential oil is used to instill a sense of calm after a shave.

Freddie Mercury Day

[via]

In celebration of Freddie Mercury’s 65th birth anniversary, we encourage our clients to dress up as Freddie For A Day, thereby raising funds to support the continued work in fighting HIV/AIDS worldwide through the Mercury Phoenix Trust, an HIV AIDS charitable organization set up in Freddie’s memory after his passing almost 20 years ago.

I Do Apologize

for my absence. A rival stylist tried to put us out of business by knocking over my can of Stylac in traffic. Although I refrained from dousing her with Barbicide, it has put a kink (ahem) into my backcombing skills for a few weeks.

Hey, Big Spender!

Spend a little time with me...

Miss Heart of Ohio, 196something or other

The above mentioned image is from the 196Something or Other Miss Heart of Ohio Pageant.  Miss Heart of Ohio is an intermediate step pageant held in Marion Ohio for young ladies in North Central Ohio.  The crowned winner steps up to Mansfield, Ohio's Miss Ohio Pageant.  If selected Miss Ohio, the winner then steps up to the national Miss America Pageant.

It's really important that we remember that the Miss America Pageant is a scholarship based event, where brains matter as much as talent and poise.

And if you think "what kind of chance would a girl from Podunk City, Ohio" can win a national pageant, one should remember that Marilyn Meseke from little old Marion, Ohio was crowned Miss America in 1938, the first year that talent was incorporated into the pageant AND the first time the pageant was broadcast live to an eager nation.

And if you dare, the Marion County Historical Society has her four foot trophy, cape and tiara all on display.

It just goes to show you that any of us can be Miss America, if we try really hard.

Thought for the Day
