Mabel Peabody's was a gay bar in Denton, TX. Sadly the the beauty parlor and chainsaw repair theme did not carry over into the decor (I think there was an old style hair dryer inside). The bar was actually pretty sparse--having a few tables, a small horse shoe bar and a small dance floor. Business seemed very slow--there were a handful of 4 or 5 lesbians (the type who wear cut-off camouflage pants and have barbed wire tattoos) who hung out there--and I think they would often close early. On sunday nights they had great punk rock shows there but the majority of the patrons were straight. I saw some really great bands there and I could drink underage (as could probably anyone else who wanted to) so I always had a good time. A few years ago a friend told me the place had burned down (likely due to arson).
Multitasking Mable!
