The Price of Beauty!

A Cicero beauty salon owner who discussed her wealth in front of customers was kidnapped by a jealous client, police say.
Blanca Solis, 38, allegedly recruited her husband Marco Cadenas, 35, and three other men into the plot after overhearing Zita Paniagua, 45, describe her family holdings and assets at Salon Impresiones, 4902 West Cermak. Read the rest here.

Overheard.
While still in pre-production, the hairdresser on The Addams Family movie gave a nickname to the wig that was used on Anjelica Huston. She called it Faye (Dunaway) "...because it was such a bitch to work with."

Once ...
... Jacques' hair was lacquered into place, no one knew his secret.

I know I have been remiss from the HHoF. The laptop has gone to the shop; the pinched nerve must rest and yes! I have been gainfully employed once again.

Before, and Bouffant
Make Over Courtesy of The Hair Hall of Fame
Golda is a girl on the go in the hectic Middle East. If she isn't on the phone with Moshe Dayan discussing battle tactics, then she's in the kibbutz kibbitzing, planting trees, placing ceremonial bricks in the wall and leading Jewish children in song. Her life is so busy that she seldom has time to treat herself to some "Me" time, let alone a game of pinochle with the girls. "Everyone wants a piece of me," she muses, "so whats left? Feh!"
Her turn-ons include defying Soviet threats and moon-lit walks on the beach; her turn-offs are bacon, impromptu guitar players and insecurity.
Her turn-ons include defying Soviet threats and moon-lit walks on the beach; her turn-offs are bacon, impromptu guitar players and insecurity.
So we out fitted her with a back-combed bouffant wig, in a softer color that is more flattering to a woman of her maturity. Notice how the shape of her "do" emphasizes Golda's best feature - her strong jawline. In the back, the wig is slightly higher - its a kicky look! Now, when she smiles alluringly, and look up from negotiating table from beneath the lush folds of nylon acrylic and disarm any world power with her smile. We also lightened her eyebrows and gave her cucumber slices to reduce puffiness under her eyes. After a deep tissue massage, and twenty minutes in a mud bath, she feels like a new woman. "I feel like I could go out and conquer Egypt!"

My Favorite Palm Springs Philanthropist

This is Jackie Lee Houston, no doubt a lovely woman, who spends her time doing good things out there in the desert. I became aware of her existence via 111 Magazine. Seems this glossy is something you cannot subscribe to nor purchase. You receive it because you have been deemed worthy. Many hands had flipped through the pages before my grimy paws got custody. It was in these pages that I became acutely aware of Jackie Lee. After reading the magazine, one came away presuming that there's no charity Mrs. Houston isn't heavily involved with.
I just like that her hairdo is kinda like a chrysanthemum.

Mrs. Edwin Smith-Standish models the WASP look
The doyenne who embodies all things good taste and fine living found in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Mrs. Edwin Smith-Standish, has invited us into her into her home. We find her in the library overlooking her east garden. As she puts down her latest copy of the DAR Magazine, she greets us. "Do come in!"
She is known to her husband as Martha. Her school chums at Miss Porter's know her as "Smithy". Her children Edwin Jr., Miles and triplets Doreen, Colleen and Maureen know her best as "Mother" (Her youngest child, Bruce, a "free spirit and leathersmith living in San Francisco, call's me "Sunday's," she muses) and her grandchildren know her as Mrs. Smith-Standish. Mrs. Smith-Standish occupies her time overseeing the family home on South Park Boulevard, and attending club meetings when she isn't involved with charities involved with doing "good works". Holidays are spent hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at the country club for her family. And she drives a "sensible" Buick.
Not known for frivilous trends, and immune to fadish things, she has worn her her hair like this since 1965. Change her do? Cover that grey? "You sound like my stylist at "Andre Duvall!" she chortles. "Can you imagine me in a "Rachel" cut? What could be gained by coloring my hair?" She smiles, amused at our joie de vivre.
"Now, that would not be becoming to a woman of my age, would it. And I'm not interested in turning heads at this stage in my life. Mr. Smith-Standish would think I was out of my mind! No, this design suits me. Though I enjoy seeing women keeping up with the latest trends, our way suits us fine."
She depresses a button on the table next to her. "Estelle will be right in with tea and water cress sandwiches. I hope you will stay."
