Oh, the indignities that we endured having to befriend little tomboys just so we could play with the dolls that they eschewed. Winces in recognition. My friend Sean loved my Crissy, I'd want to go out and play Kick the Can and he'd want to stay in with her, drawing Flair pen pix of men in hot pants, platform shoes, and mesh tank tops (it was the 70s!). Then when we did go out, Kick the Can would turn into a Sean-directed Modern Dance of seeds germinating or something else artistic. He went on to hoof and sing on Broadway in O, Calcutta! (which he described as Naked Love American Style) and make in Big in NYC publishing...
Oh! Oh! Oh! I LOVED my Crissy doll! I got her for Christmas when I was 5. I adored her magic hair. Sort of mullet-ish now, but at the time, nothing was more wondrous. I think I took her to show and tell for kindergarten. My older sister even played with her. She was much beloved.
isn't that what cher always did?
ReplyDeletei still hold a grudge against that Santa guy for not bringing me a Crissy doll.
ReplyDeleteYou KNOW I had this! I carried it around like other girls carried around baby dolls. I also had her younger sister, "Velvet."
ReplyDeleteYou don't know how much I wanted one of these when I was a kid. Also a Blythe doll. And I hated all the little bitches who got 'em!
ReplyDeleteBTW: Hi, Shrinky!
I remember Velvet, too! Problem was, the more you brushed their hair, the frizzier it became.
