Challenging Clients #11

Andrew Schlottkowski was a Tuesday morning regular for the longest time.  The only real challenge was finding a 'do that wouldn't completely flatten out under the hardhat when he had a double shift down at the mill.  Well, that and dealing with his uncontrollable crying jags for six years after his mother died, and then for another four when word broke that Guy and Ralna had divorced.  Frankly, I was relieved when he moved to Vero Beach to live in his Aunt Lucille's double-wide.

What's Playing in the Salon Today

You make me so very happy.

kabuki At Home!

It may surprise you to know that at heart, world traveling kabuki is really a home girl!

It is there that kabuki's native talent for the domestic sciences really can blossom.  Note for instance how the clever kabuki, after bleaching the pet poodle with a solution of straight Clorox, has made a fun and decorative wall hanging out of the empty bottle!

I call it Da' Butt

Cheeky, isn't it?

hair up, pants down

Butchie of the Day

Hats off to Norma Desmond on this terribly sensibly butch hair cut that he gave to our client Dr. Ovid McOrchid, PhD. in Womyn's Studies at Sarah Lawrence College.

Dr. McOrchid is the promoter of the pronoun "Woperown" in place of the word "woman", which is "unnecessarily male-centric."  A woperown is a "woman" who is her own "person".  Since "person" is also male-centric, only the gender neutral part was used.

Dr. McOrchid loves her hair and say that "It shatters the male dominated paradigm of how a woperown should look.  Now if you will excuse me, I have college hoops to watch."

Client Request

Client: "Can you give me something that looks like spun sugar with a dash of Rose Marie?"
Lucitebox: "Sure! Sounds great...let's call it Gentle Billow. "

Little does she know this 'do got its name because I almost passed out from her gaseous emissions.

The Hair Hall of Fame staff would like to welcome our newest stylist.

The mysterious Kabuki Zero has consented to join the the HHoF. We are, of course over-joyed.

Please welcome him with open kimono.  If you tip well, and if you are nice, he just may give you an Oshiguma for your collection at no extra charge.

We will linkify him following his first post, and is tradition on the HHoF.

Ladies with an Attitude

The genteel girls of Shampoo warble a tune that I hereby nominate as the HHOF National Anthem.

A quick check of the archives reveals that this song first appeared here two years ago, but fuck it - who the hell remembers two years ago?  I have trouble remembering Thursday...

One Hit Wonders - Boy Krazy

Boy Krazy, a studio created all girl group had one hit in 1993 with "That's What Love Can Do", a Stock  Aitken, Waterman song first recorded by the group in 1991.

Stock  Aitken, Waterman - which was also the production team behind Rick Astley and Bananarama - was the driving force behind much of the dance/crossover music in the late 1980s and early 1990s.  They could have had these young women  yodeling in the Swiss Alps and it would have hit number one in a club.

But alas, these lasses with the gorgeous tresses, and those bee stung plump lips, had a dreadful follow up - Good Times With Bad Bad Boys - and they were consigned to the dust bin of culture.  Look for them on a reality show one day as they try and recapture that magic that once was.
